Adoption Support Groups

Being a birth parent, adopting a child or being an adopted person can be challenging at times.  There are support groups available in New Jersey that can help you.  By participating in a group, you will meet other people and families that may be facing the same issues you are. Nothing is better than talking to those who have already walked in your shoes and can offer guidance.  Take a look at the list of support groups on our resources page - see if there is one in your area that you can connect with…
Joining one may be the best decision you ever made.

Want to join or start a support group in your area? Contact our warm line through our
toll free number: 1(877) 4ARCHNJ or e-mail our warm line: warmline@njarch.org.

Buddy System

The Buddy Family Program offers guidance, emotional support and the voice of experience for those who are in need of extra help navigating adoption related issues.  Buddy Families share information, talk, listen and are compassionate friends to less
experienced families.  They do not provide clinical or other professional services.

All Buddy Families have on-going support from the Warm Line staff, on-staff clinicians and regularly scheduled free in person and chat room training sessions.

Want to be a buddy or have a Buddy? Contact our warm line through our toll free number: 1.877.4ARCHNJ or e-mail our warm line: warmline@njarch.org; we will match you with an individual or family to assist you on your adoption journey.

Lending Library

NJwARCH has an extensive library of adoption and parenting books, videos, pamphlets and articles.  An annotated bibliography is available on the books and articles page of this site. The books have been reviewed by adoption professionals and the notes will
help you choose the book that’s right for you. The materials are sorted by area of interest.

Books that are available for loan are marked with this icon.

Materials may be borrowed for two weeks. A return label with postage will be included in the package.  The loaned item can be placed in the original package, resealed, and addressed with the label. Just leave it out for pick up by your letter carrier or drop it in a mailbox.  Loaned items valued over $50 will require a credit card number and expiration date. Your card will only be charged if you fail to return the book or video.

If  you want to borrow a book, click on the icon, and you will be transferred to the  Borrow a Book page and can fill out the order form and submit it on line. You can also contact our warm line by e-mail or telephone and we will send the item to you.

The resource directory includes local, state wide and regional resources.  It is continuously updated on-line and available yearly in a printed format.

Currently the directory includes adoption agencies, support groups, mental health providers with experience in adoption, medical resources, and camps for children arranged alphabetically and by county.
