Notes: This training for adoption professionals introduces the challenges parents and kids face as children become learners in the school system. Children adopted from abroad may start out with simple developmental delays that appear to resolve which may hen evolve into school challenges. There are critical challenge points where kids are expected to step up to attend and focus in a classroom setting.
There areexpectations for children to organize their
thoughts, to problem solve, and practice their learning as they do homework. How can professionals help parents advocate for their children in the school system so that the child can be successful?

Notes: Attachment and bonding are natural phenomenon that occur between parent (biologic or adoptive) and child. The parents "fall in love" with the child and the process begins. What happens to the child when this is interrupted by trauma, neglect, or institutionalization? How can the adoptive parents recognize the signs of an Attachment Disorder and what steps can they take to minimize it's effect on their child's development? Registration required. $25 per family not affiliated with Open Arms.
