We decided to do our holiday party in February this year instead of doing a Christmas/Hanukah event. Our thinking is that everyone will be less busy and enjoy a winter pick-me-up. Plus IAC Center is all about families, building, maintaining and improving relationships.
So what better holiday to celebrate, than one about LOVE!  Meet other families, have a reunion with your group members and share your journeys!
Think Chocolate, Flowers and a fun pick-me-up at a quieter and sometimes darker time of year. We welcome all IAC Center clients, professionals the Center works with and anyone else who would like to meet us, enjoy the party and learn more about the Center.

The workshop will offer information about children’s understanding of adoption based on their age and offer insight to parents about facilitating adoption dialogue throughout their child’s development.

This workshop will assist families in learning about the unique dynamics of a multi-racial family and offers tips and tools for families that seeking to adopt across cultural and racial lines. Through activities and group discussions, families will develop skills to ensure they are prepared for this family building journey.

     This 1 ½ hour workshop, facilitated by a nurse/adoptive parent, helps families preparing for adoption to learn skills important for any new parent.  Explore your hospital preferences and learn how to navigate the hospital experience.  Information about the birth certificate process is reviewed along with the role of the adoption certificate after placement.  Topic areas to be covered include caring for your newborn, feeding and sleep schedules, bonding, medical decisions such as circumcision and so much more.
Fee: $50.00 per person (pre adoptive families), $35. 00 per person (extended adoptive family members).

     This 2 ½hour interactive workshop explores the concept of openness as it is practiced in adoption today. Through discussion and activities, this workshop seeks to enhance families’ knowledge base about openness through exploring what openness means.  Families will leave feeling more confident and prepared to nurture this unique and important relationship in their child’s life. The workshop will conclude with insights from adoptive parents who currently maintain a relationship with their child’s birth family.

The audience will be given information surrounding how to develop a profile that is unique and really shines! Families are welcome to bring photos and “works in progress” to receive feedback on how their profile is coming together and to work with the group on preparing their book.
